SMC Consulting Engineers were commissioned to undertake the planning and detailed design of all the marine facilities as part of Lakeside Villa Resort, a residential, golf and marina development located on the Bangpakong River in Thailand.
The facilities comprised:
- 140-berth marina in a sheltered cove accessed via a lock
- 94-berth river marina
- 177 private berths in the river and lake
- 172 dry-boat storage berths
- service facilities including fuelling, boat building and repair, boat lift and hardstanding
The Bangpakong River has a tidal range of 3.4m and all berths were designed as floating pontoon berths. The pontoons were designed as polystyrene encased concrete fixed with timber walers and cylindrical prestressed spun concrete piles. Access to berths is via aluminium gangways.
The berths were fitted with power, lighting, water, firefighting and waste reception facilities.
SMC Consulting Engineers was responsible for planning the layout of the marina and the boat storage repair facilities together with detailed design of all structures. SMC also managed the environmental impact assessment preparation for the development and assisted with the submission and receipt of development approvals from the various government authorities.
